Road To Miss Universe 2011

Miss Universe Botswana finalists chosen

The count down to Miss Universe Botswana finals continued last Saturday with the announcement of 12 finalists.
Girls were judged on three categories, that is, swimsuit, national gift, and interview. The girls who made it to the top twelve impressed the judges with their abilities to face a crowd in swimsuits, charm the red carpet with ease and comfort.
The National Gift category was the most interesting as the girls were asked to bring something that they feel can help sell or market Botswana on the global stage, thus bringing out their intelligence and creativity. Among the gifts brought forth was the Coat of Arms, national Soccer team jersey, the Pula currency and baskets.
The contestant who brought the national soccer team jersey, which was autographed by the National Under 23 soccer team, highlighted that the jersey was symbolic of hardwork and hope and that Batswana never gave up even when the Zebras were losing.
“The contention was that the national soccer players fought on as hard as a Zebra and emerged victorious as they qualified for the next AFCON games. The jersey also proved relevant to the pageant as this year’s Miss Universe finals will be held in Brazil, a soccer nation,” pointed the pageant’s spoke’s person, Safie Sekgwa of Mos Syde Worldwide entertainment group.
“With all the messages behind the gifts, Batswana can only be assured of a tough competition this year considering that even some of the girls with the best gift still could not qualify for the finals,” Sekgwa added. The Voice, Botswana
