First Look at Leonardo DiCaprio as J.Edgard Hoover

In what will surely become one of his most rewarding roles ever, Leonardo DiCaprio portrays FBI founder J. Edgard Hoover in an upcoming film about the life of such enigmatic character, directed by Clint Eastwood.

The first pictures of the film have surfaced (courtesy of EW), and DiCaprio appears to be loving the advantages of playing such an interesting and conflicted person:

“I think that he was always an outsider. I think that’s what this story is about, how he sort of lost touch towards the end of his life, to say the least."

The film will follow Hoover´s journey since his early years and how he build up the FBI making it the power entity that it is today.

Director Clint Eastwood describes him:

“Here’s this guy starting the Bureau of Investigation, which later became the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and then goes on to stay for 48 years through eight presidents. Of course nobody could fire him, because he had something on everybody.”

Of course, one of the most controversial issues of Hoover´s life, his rumoured homosexual relationship with Associate FBI Director Clyde Tolson (played by Armie Hammer, pictured above), will also be portrayed on the upcoming film.

Clint Eastwood reflects on this particular issue:

“Some people might interpret it that way. Some people might say [he and Tolson] were just inseparable pals. Or maybe it’s a love story without being gay, I don’t know. But it’s very interesting, the way Lance laid out the script. It was nicely written. It didn’t go to the obvious.”

Obvious or not, it is pretty easy to see why DiCaprio is probably going to win a string of awards and nominations for this career-defining role next year.
