Joe Manganiello: "I was depressed after 'Superman' loss"

Joe Manganiello has recently revealed that he had a hard time coping with the fact that he lost the opportunity to play Superman in Zack Snyder´s upcoming reboot, Man of Steel.

The True Blood star told Digital Spy:

"[Warner Bros] wanted me to screen test and part of the screen test process is that they actually have to settle your deal, as if you were cast going into a screen before you get the screen test.

And so that involved settling of shooting schedule and the dates for shooting Superman would have conflicted with 11 weeks of season five [of True Blood].

And as it turns out they had big plans for my character in season five and they were not willing to share me with Superman. So regrettably I never got to screen test and I never got to compete for the role. I never got to put on the suit."

Manganiello added how frustrated he felt that he did not get to try out for the dreamed role:

"This was back in January. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't... I was really, severely depressed for a few months. For a few months afterwards.

Because I really thought the direction they were taking the movie and the character, I really thought I had a great idea where to take that and I was very excited and I just wanted to try out my ideas and things. But, you know, it just wasn't meant to be."

Do you believe Manganiello would have been a good choice to play Superman?

Henry Cavill Talks Superman

As the new face of Superman, Henry Cavill knows his days as an unknown actor are over and that the expectations for his performance on Man of Steel are pretty high.

Just recently he commented with Total Film on his experience so far playing the iconic character:

“I’m on 5000 calories a day… You’ve got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs…you’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going. I’m training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman.”

Cavill also took the time to reflect on what it was like to put on the Superman costume for the very first time:

“It’s extremely cool. There’s no other feeling like it. […] They just put it on, I turned around and look in the mirror and you can’t really play it cool – you sort of guffaw and laugh. I thought ‘OK, holy hell, this is real, it’s not a joke anymore. This is it…you’re doing it, you’re right in the middle of it.’”

Do you believe Cavill will make a good Superman?

Amy Adams Is The New Lois Lane

Superman has found his Lois Lane. Warner Bros has confirmed Amy Adams has joined the cast of the new Superman reboot as the superhero´s romantic interest.

Director Zack Snyder could not be happier with his choice: "Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful," he said in a statement.

Superman will begin shooting in August with a cast that includes Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and  Henry Cavill as the title character. It is expected for the movie to be released in December 2012.

Personally, we believe casting Adams as Lois Lane is an excellent choice as she has proven to have both dramatic and comedic abilities in previous roles in films such as Enchanted or The Fighter.

What do you guys think?

Kevin Costner Joins 'Superman'

Zack Snyder´s Superman has another star joining the cast: Kevin Costner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent´s adoptive father on Earth.

Costner joins a cast that includes Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Henry Cavill as Superman. No word yet on whether Costner´s character will suffer the same fate as it did on the original Richard Donner Superman movie and die from a heart attack.

Do you believe that Costner is a good addition to the new version of the Man Of Steel?

Diane Lane Joins New Superman Movie

Warner Bros Pictures has announced that Academy Award nominated actress Diane Lane has joined the cast of the upcoming Superman movie as Martha Kent, the mother of the superhero on Earth.

The official press release reads as follows:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Oscar®-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Martha Kent, the only mother Clark Kent has ever known, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder. Snyder stated, “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.” Lane will star with Henry Cavill, who was recently announced as the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Lane earned an Academy Award® nomination for her performance in the 2002 drama “Unfaithful.” She most recently starred in the family hit “Secretariat.” She next stars in the HBO feature “Cinema Verite,” opposite Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini. Lane’s long list of film credits also includes “Nights in Rodanthe,” “Hollywoodland,” “Must Love Dogs,” “Under the Tuscan Sun,” “Perfect Storm,” “My Dog Skip,” “Chaplin,” “The Cotton Club” and “A Little Romance,” to name only a portion.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers. Slated for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Henry Cavill Covers Entertainment Weekly!

The new face of Superman, Henry Cavill, graces the cover of Entertainment Weekly on a special issue dedicated to the new generation of superheroes.

The magazine also deals with Cavill´s audition to portray the man of steel which involved the actor shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s Superman suit.

Cavill recalls the feeling he had at the moment while an assistant helped him put on the Super-suit:  “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!”

Director, Zack Snyder, however saw something completely different: “He walked out, and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.’’

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly is out now. Do you feel Snyder made the right choice with Cavill?
