A woman and her partner have appeared in court charged with the murder of her four-year-old son in Coventry.Daniel Pelka died of a head wound after being found unconscious at his home in the Holbrooks area of the city.
Magdelena Luczak, 26, and Mariusz Krezolek, 32, both of Leyburn Close, appeared in the dock at Coventry Magistrates' Court.
The pair spoke only to give their names and addresses to the court and to confirm they understood the charge against them.
Prosecutor John McCann told the court Luczak was the child's mother and Krezolek his stepfather.
All three lived together in a rented property.
Both defendants were remanded in custody and are next due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on March 13.
No application for bail was made.
The boy was discovered by police at around 3am on March 3 and taken to the city's University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The couple were arrested two days later. Source
